SOC Infrastructure: Designing & Building Your Operations Room
An in-house security operations centre needs a suitable room, dependable power, a segregated network, display walls, analyst workstations and a properly integrated tool stack. VOWTECH designs and builds that infrastructure for organisations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and across the UAE.
A SOC Is a Room, a Network and a Tool Stack
Organisations that decide to run security monitoring in-house soon find that the project is as much about facilities as software. Analysts need a quiet, access-controlled room, shared wall displays, workstations with several screens, and a network that keeps monitoring tools apart from the systems they watch.
VOWTECH delivers that physical and technical foundation. We plan the room, install structured cabling, racks and power protection, build the segregated SOC network, and deploy the tooling platform, which is typically a SIEM with ticketing and optional automation. Details of the platform work are on our SIEM systems page.
Building a SOC is a significant commitment because the room also has to be staffed. If you want monitoring without that overhead, our SOC monitoring service is the alternative. Some clients combine the two, owning the tooling and a small room while using an external team outside office hours.
Three Ways to Set Up a SOC
The right format depends on how many analysts you will have and whether monitoring runs around the clock or during business hours.
Dedicated SOC Room
A purpose-built, access-controlled room with a video wall, rows of analyst desks and its own network and power arrangements. Suited to larger organisations and groups monitoring several subsidiaries.
Combined NOC & SOC Desk
Network operations and security monitoring share one space and one set of wall displays. A practical choice for mid-sized IT departments where the same people cover both functions.
Hybrid SOC
You own the tooling and a small monitoring area, while an external team covers nights, weekends or overflow. The infrastructure is built so that outside analysts have controlled, audited access.
What We Design, Supply & Install
One contractor for the room, the network and the platform avoids gaps between trades.
Room & Layout Planning
Desk positions, sight lines to the video wall, cable routes, lighting glare and noise are planned before anything is ordered, together with space for future analyst positions.
Video Wall & Workstations
Wall displays with a controller for shared dashboards, and multi-monitor analyst workstations with suitable mounts and secure peripherals.
SOC Network Segregation
A separate, firewalled network segment for monitoring tools, with dedicated management access and controlled paths for log collection from production systems.
Tooling Platform
Deployment of the SIEM, log storage, ticketing or case management, and optional SOAR automation, sized for your log volume and integrated with each other.
Power, Cooling & Racks
Rack space for SOC servers, UPS protection for workstations and displays, and a check that room cooling can handle equipment that runs continuously.
Physical Security
Door access control, CCTV coverage of the entrance and visitor procedures, so that only authorised staff can enter and screens are not visible from outside.
From Workshop to Operational Room
Facilities and platform work run in parallel so that the room and the tools are ready together.
Requirements Workshop
We agree the number of analysts, operating hours, systems to monitor and the space available.
Design
Room layout, network diagram, power plan and tooling architecture are produced for your approval.
Fit-Out & Cabling
Cabling, racks, UPS, displays, workstations and door access are installed and labelled.
Tooling Deployment
The SIEM and supporting tools are installed on the SOC network and connected to log sources.
Testing & Handover
Failover, display feeds and alert flow are tested, then documentation and runbook templates are handed over.
Why the Foundation Matters
Analysts can only be as effective as the environment and tools they are given.
Monitoring Kept Separate
A segregated network means an attacker in the production environment cannot easily reach or blind the monitoring tools.
Designed to Stay On
Power protection and redundant links keep visibility during the outages when it is needed most.
Built Around Analysts
Layout, screens and shared displays are planned for people who will sit there for full shifts.
One Team for Every Trade
VOWTECH covers cabling, servers, network, access control and CCTV, so there is a single point of responsibility.
